Are You an Overseas Trained Teacher?
The rules governing the employment of Overseas Trained Teachers (OTTs) must be read and understood before a school takes on an OTT.
In terms of NQT Induction, the Appropriate Body cannot take on an OTT who does not hold qualified teacher status (QTS). The teacher must first be awarded QTS by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). Therefore, schools should not register their OTTs as NQTs with us until they have gained QTS.
To find out how to obtain qualified teacher status (QTS), in order to teach in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in England please go to our Overseas Trained Teachers section for further information. This should be treated as a matter of priority as soon as you have been offered a teaching position.
